Building a Personal Recovery Routine That Sticks
A recovery routine only helps if it's actually followed consistently — an elaborate plan with a dozen steps that gets abandoned after a week does less good than a simple, realistic routine practiced every time.
Start with the two or three recovery habits that have the strongest evidence behind them and fit most easily into an existing schedule: a post-training snack or meal with both protein and carbohydrate, a consistent sleep-and-wake time, and steady hydration throughout the day rather than catching up all at once. These three cover a large share of recovery's real impact on their own.
Once those basics are genuinely consistent — not perfect, just consistent — additional tools (foam rolling, massage, cold exposure, specific supplements) can be layered in as extras, rather than trying to adopt an entire elite-athlete recovery stack all at once and having none of it stick.
